Night diaries

Starry skies and the moonlight night,
I see your face in a formation of stars up above,
Which i took a while to realize.

Why is it so hard?
Now the clouds are curtaining the show,
The show was like a screen with blurry pixels,
that didnt let me see it well.

I'm trying to figure out the meaning of this sight,
of the face i saw
and the quick movement of the clouds,
that curtailed these moments of revelry.

Traps

When i look up the word "Trap",in some dictionaries,
i always think of poor living beings,
being hauled up in the those traps.

And, I often disregard the rest,
But as life continues,
we see alot of hunters with traps,
that can place us in a B-52 bomb drop zone.

But, what if these hunters
get tangled in their own traps?
Wont it be the ultimate failure?
Well, thats for the hunter to decide.

The Clash of the Cultures

Jasvinder Sanghera, a resident of Derby, United Kingdom is an energetic, kind and a beautiful looking woman. However as the saying goes “luck isn’t with wonderful too”. She has gone through the worst things that life can ever offer. Jasvinder has been abused mentally and physically in the worst possible ways one can ever think of. She now lives with her boyfriend and her son, as she is now disowned by her parents. When a person has to make an important decision, that changes his or her life, the person should be the sole decider, to which they feel comfortable with. Forced Marriage is against this god given right and love marriages are the best way to get married.
Jasvinder and many women like her are forced into marriages they don’t want to be in, by their parents. Although Jasvinder, an Indian living in the U.K., her parents are staunch believers that they should handle her life and her decisions. Forced marriages are very common in the Asian countries like India and China. However, India has the most accounted forced marriages. It is justified to write that these societies that accept forced marriage, mostly live in the rural areas, where culture and tradition plays a daily role in their lives.
When we take a stand on something there is always an opposition that we have to consider about, as they are the ones who enforce it and in this case; the parents who believe in forced marriages. The reality is that forced marriage has become a culture or a popular belief and societies accept it where it is happening. Any sought of disobedience by the daughters to forced marriage leads to something everyone dreads about; death, starvation, labeling as outcasts, curfews, beatings and mockery. So what is the better way of getting married? That even a small child will answer correctly and it is love marriage.
Love marriages are the ultimate and best way to get married. It involves the ability to make up one’s own mind. By dating or by meeting people and comparing them against one’s ideals, is a right that is given to every human being. Love marriages bring out the best in every person. This type of marriage has love as its first priority. Referring back to the basic understanding of forced marriage, the parents general philosophy on this is widely related to this saying “decide with your head and not with your heart”. Parents that are for forced marriages mostly choose a partner based on what is best for the family. Love marriage allows a person to choose a partner based on what is good for her and good decision makers (parents) allow marriages to happen. Should either spouse end up unhappy after being married for a few years, no one can blame one’s parent for making an unsuitable choice in love marriages.
Love marriages involve a great deal of freedom. The people, who want to marry, have already got good informed information about that person after having spent one to eight years with that person. Both partners know each other in a personal level and they know what to expect. In love marriages, there is no compulsion in love; couples do not love each for the sake of loving it comes from their true feelings for each other. There is perfect bonding of the souls in a love marriage and hence the secret of their stability.
India, being the most accounted country for forced marriages has a culture, whereby relatives live under one single roof. While there are benefits to having one’s extended family close by who can offer support when needed, this calculations has it disadvantages also. Some marital arguments and conflicts are settled better when only the spouses are involved. When the in-laws interfere and impose their views, this can cause stress to the marriage.
To understand the opposition’s point of view we must first understand and transplant ourselves into the culture that promotes forced marriages. We will in time realize the reasons behind this practice. Some of those reasons can be attributed to the wisdom of elders. Because they raised and cared for children, they instinctively know what’s best for their family. From their point of view, they believe that the risk of incompatibility is diminished due to their research and trust on the husband’s family.
Parents force their child to marry a stranger due to many reasons. Force marriage in India is prevalent because people benefit from it. People benefit from this as they use forced marriages to settle debts. India, although being a huge economy, still has a major portion of its population under financial crisis. To families living in poverty or economic instability, a daughter may be seen as an “economic burden” who must be married as soon as possible to take financial strain off the financial strain of the family. Families also marry off their daughters at an early age against their will to maintain family honor in the society, as they feel that they are controlling unwanted behavior and sexuality (queer). In some of the Indian societies, families come under significant pressure from their extended families to get their children married in order to strengthen family links. In some instances, agreements have been made about marriage when the children were very young. People must understand that this is a culture and this has been practiced for many years. It has changed many lives whether good or bad, but in most cases; bad. Daughters are also married off to resolve tribal feuds. What people must also understand is that, if the opposition would challenge these people in a debate, then the opposition is also challenging their culture.
What we are seeing here is that these people believe that forced marriage is the only way to get to what they want, be it removal of debts, honor, overpowering the right of the daughter to decide and to maintain their age old culture. The evergreen way of thinking, that the elder’s choice on their daughter’s future husband, is positively remarked by the people who live in these societies. As mentioned before, they do it for the sake of what they feel is right for their daughter and family. The chain of forced marriage continues from generation to generation. In most cases, forced marriage emerges where young women refuse to adhere to an arranger marriage by their parents. More than just a feud between parents and a child, a parent may see the young woman’s action as a crime against their family honor.
What we notice here looking at the issue overall is that, there is a clash of two ways of thinking on this issue. One is that Forced marriage is something that people who live around it accept it, except for the daughter being coerced in it and the other being love marriage as the best possible way to get married. To the people who live around forced marriage; society and parents, this is the best possible way they could get their daughters married.
The betrayal of betrayals is portrayed by forced marriages as the daughter feels saddened by the coercion of the parents to get married to someone totally unknown to her. Forced marriage has let to suicides, rape, abuse, torture and mockery. The UN estimates that more than 60 million women in developing countries were married before the age of 18 against their will, with the practice most common in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. In view of the people who practice “forced marriage”, people brought up with virtues such as equality, freedom and liberty widely condemn this issue, but the people who practice it doesn’t want the tradition to fade away as they feel that morality in their culture will be lost someday.

"Its my turn, let me play"

Video Games have caused a significant influence upon popular culture. It has evolved over time, particularly with the growth of the internet culture.

The emergence of video games and early acceptance.
Video games were first introduced in the late 1940’s; the first game ever to be introduced was Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device. With that, the years that followed saw many other developments being made in new games. Along with the developments in the games, there were developments in the players also.

Games like Mario, Doom, Pac-Man, Street Fighter which were developed and marketed in the 1980’s helped to bring this industry into a lucrative one. The games that were launched in the second generation (1977-1991) and third generation (1983-1995) were well accepted by the people. These games helped the industry by setting a strong foundation and we can all see its results right now.

Changes in video games and Changes in its users.
The players.
Since time has gone by from the third generation consoles (1995), America has been given huge varieties of gaming. This has created groups of gamers that have erupted as communities and the society is now being born in gaming. The gaming generation represents a whopping ninety million people. According to Entertainment Software Association, The gaming generation is now being dominated by the people from the age of 18-49. The table shows that the people above 50 years and people below 18 are quite the same. This shows that the elderly people too are becoming gamers.

In terms of gender wise, we see a huge difference; the difference is something we all get amazed at. Not because of the huge difference but, the increase in female participation. This was highly unlikely to increase 10-12 years back. The extreme development of the games has lured many people to it. Games offer people entertainment or leisure, which satisfies their wants. More and more elderly people are playing games as it has become an icon for the growth of technology, and they want to experience as they didn’t have it during their young days or that the technology was just too bad, which in fact it was compared to now a days. The players join forces that collaborate with each other in solving the game or even socially off the game. Gamers have created this network of social interaction where new people meet and play and become friends and join or create communities. They help or destroy other players, which is all interesting to a new person being introduced to gaming, thus gamers cease to be consumers, but start to become contributors.

The games.
The games of now have enormous differences from the games of the past, which I assume most of you all know. The games have been more diversified in terms of graphics, sound, culture, ethics, morals, commercial deals, etc. The games have drastically changed for the better or worse. The theme of the games in the past during the 2nd generation console age and 3rd generation console had less interesting stories or levels. Adding to it, the visual and audio were not good. The games of now a day have redefined art with technology. Communities are becoming increasingly involved in the expansion of the experience. Gaming companies are luring more and more people into it by offering not only better games but also the personal interaction with the games, by allowing them to edit or create their own campaigns, maps, players, etc.

The environment surrounding it.
Gamers are surrounded in an environment that knows about them and dislikes them and those that like them. The ones that dislike them are the people who don’t like games and term most gamers as geeks or nerds, which is often untrue. The most obvious group that likes them is the businesses themselves. They want more gamers to be created by providing innovative deals and entertaining games.

The impact of games and gamers.
Influences being caused.
The games that have come out in recent years have made people aware that ultimate in-door recreation is video games. Consoles such as X-box, play station, Wii and Rock Band is influencing its players. Like said before, these consoles have become an icon for modern technology. It has made people addicted to it as well as brought new gamers. It has created devotees out of people who didn’t consider themselves as gamers. Many debates are being done about the positives and negatives of gaming and we all know about it, and it is up to you to decide what’s wrong and right. Gaming is now progressively moving from the bedroom to the living room. Gamers also influence gamer wannabes by playing well and gaining respect from beating levels or other players.

The rise of professional gaming.
According to the game research study, it found out that one-third of competitive gamers defined themselves as “Professional gamers”, which indicates that there’s a rising class of young people who are considering playing video games as jobs, which is true as we are seeing mega tournaments being held across America and across the world. So, it’s reasonable enough to come to a conclusion that though older generations have maintained a casual gaming habit, younger gamers have purposed a casual activity into a full-fledged profession.

The road ahead for the gaming generation.
The future of gaming will not be all that different than the future of any other form of entertainment. As the masses of players determine what they want to get out of gaming, large corporations will throw their money and workforce into providing it. Let’s wait for a new console to come out and for new figures or statistics of gamers, which is highly anticipated by all for this is turning out to be a success story.

Tears of the earth

With the scorched life,
sitting idly above,
the barren land lies,
burnt and forgotten.

O! what have we done to
the realms of nature,
the land raped with greed.

Power and surrender,
two opposite poles,
union with nature,
only comes when,
hallucination sets in.

We want more than
this world's got to offer.

Goodnight!

While i try to stay awake,
in this sub-conscious level,
I sway from angle to angle.

My words if spoken,
are eaten up by my tired body,
Rest assured,
i am on my way to sleep.

Goodnight!

The Old Tree

On a lurch hill,
stands an old giant tree,
Weathered by the years gone by.

I stand in front of it,
to look upon it's mightyness,
Its branches are weak,
but collosal in size.

With the warm wind echoing,
the sound of nature behind,
i stand there amazed.

Its twangled branches,
that interloom with one another,
gives a ghoulish look.

And so here i am,
scared and enjoying,
But a vision i see it,
rocking all the time.

A vision of hope,
for the leaves to grow,
for the leaves to green,
for birds to fly to it,
for people to sit under it.

My old tree!
I hope someday you grow young,
and fantasy, a dream and a wish.

Scoteria : Where the grasses are greener

Humbled am i to see the wishes of our fathers being fulfilled,
to the lush green flieds that emerged from the sweat of our youth,
and the dedication of total perseverance to accomplish those wishes,
The meadows are looming with wild asses,
grazing to glory feed.

Musical girls sing to the clear blue sky that encompasses the green hills below,
ahead the caravan, the horsemen check out for any dangers ahead,
but hark! perils are never experienced or encountered in this area of the land.

Kingdoms come one after the other,
to see the beauty, to rule the beauty and to appreciate the beauty,
Oh! how i envision that darkness never sets,
so as to see the beauty all day and night.

Peaceful and serene it is,
the Romeos and Juliets favor the land,
Juliet tells Romeos, she is impressed for his choice on spots.

And now sadness sets in,
as the sun slowly begins to mitigate below the lush hills,
I can only say that the night will be spent on Scoteria,
painstainkingly counting the stars till dawn.
